US warplanes attack Iraqi targets
Two US Air Force planes fired missiles today at an air defence installation in northern
Iraq after determining they were about to be attacked by surface-to-air missiles, US officials
said.
The US planes returned safely to their base in Turkey.
Damage to the Iraqi site could not be immediately determined, Defence Department officials
said.
Two US F-15E strike aircraft and one F-16 fighter were on routine patrol in the "no-fly"
