Fed: Howard slams Keating s attack on Menzies
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says former prime minister PAUL KEATING'S attack on the
war-time record of Liberal Party founder ROBERT MENZIES is despicable.
Mr HOWARD has defended Mr Menzies' attitude toward HITLER, after Mr KEATING told ABC
radio Mr MENZIES was a coward toward the Nazis.
Mr HOWARD says most politicians in the late 1930s, with the exception of British war-time
leader WINSTON CHURCHILL, talked about negotiation with the Germans.
He's told Melbourne radio 3AW that Labor's war-time prime minister JOHN CURTIN also
talked about negotiation with HITLER, even after World War Two had broken out.
Mr HOWARD says most people were seeking appeasement because they still had memories
of the horrible losses of World War One.
